Kareo’s best-in-class product solutions help mitigate some of the issues created by COVID-19 and its impact to both your practice and patients. Here are a few enhancements available through Kareo to address COVID-19 testing, diagnosis, and treatment.

Send COVID-19 Questionnaire

Available for Kareo Engage subscribers.

Front office staff can send incoming patients a COVID-19 Questionnaire to assess if the patient is at risk. This will help the practice prepare the best course of action prior to the patient's visit.

The new COVID-19 Questionnaire can be sent through a new appointment or on-demand. The patient will receive an email inviting them to complete their forms online.

Once submitted, the COVID-19 form will be ready for review in the patient's document or within a note (similar to reviewing a medical history intake).

Enter COVID-19 HCPCS Codes and CPT Code

CLIA certified labs performing tests on patients to diagnose COVID-19 can use the new HCPCS codes U0001 or U0002 for services. Additionally, CPT code 87635 is available to report and track testing services related to COVID-19. The new codes can be used in a superbill, charge capture, encounter, or procedure macro.

  • Effective February 4, 2020, HCPCS code U0001 is used for performing tests developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
    Official Name: CDC 2019 Novel Coronavirus Real Time RT-PCR Diagnostic Test Panel
  • Effective February 4, 2020, HCPCS code U0002 is used for performing non-Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) tests.
    Official Name: 2019-nCoV Coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2/2019-nCoV (COVID-19) using any technique, multiple types or subtypes (includes all targets)
  • Effective March 13, 2020, CPT code 87635 is used for performing any CDC or non-CDC tests related to COVID-19.
    Official Name: SARS-COV-2 COVID-19 AMP PRB

Note: HCPCS and CPT codes should not both be reported on the same claim. Contact the payer(s) directly to determine the appropriate code to be reported and specific guidelines as coding requirements vary by payer.

Use COVID-19 Template

A new COVID-19 system template is now available for providers and clinical assistants to document the patient's visit related to possible COVID-19 symptoms.

Access the template from note types such as: H&P, SOAP, and Urgent Care.

Order COVID-19 Lab

Providers and clinical assistants can create a lab ordering Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) to test patients presenting symptoms of COVID-19.

Note: If eLab is enabled, the test name in LabSoft may vary. If necessary, contact the lab directly to determine the appropriate test name.

Add COVID-19 Diagnosis

Use ICD-10-CM code U07.1 after a lab confirms a patient has COVID-19. The new ICD-10 code is available for use in the patient's problem, superbill, charge capture, or encounter.

COVID-19 Vaccines

Janssen, AstraZeneca, Moderna, and Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines are accessible to order, administer as new, or add as historical.

Kareo sends the latest patient COVID-19 vaccination to the provider's state registry when they are registered with their state Immunization Registry and enrolled with IronBridge. Review the Immunization Registry FAQs to learn more.
