Configure Insurance Company Settings

Once a payer enrollment status shows as Ready on the Enrollment Dashboard, it's important to configure the insurance company's settings in Kareo to ensure proper claim submission. Insurance company settings that are not properly configured may result in claim rejection or delayed payment.

Configure Insurance Company Settings

  1. Click Settings on the top menu and select Enrollments. The Enrollments Dashboard opens.
  2. Click the payer name when a Ready status displays. The Edit Insurance Company window opens.

  1. Click the General tab at the top of the window.
  2. Uncheck the "Automatically bills secondary insurance" box.

  1. Click the Practice Settings tab at the top of the window.
  2. Select Enrolled in live mode from the Enrollment Status drop-down menu. 
  3. Check the following five boxes:
  • "Use electronic billing when this payer is secondary"
  • "Send Coordination of Benefits (COB) information"
  • "Provider accepts assignment of benefits" (box is automatically checked by default)
  • "Exclude patient payments from claims sent to insurance"
  • "Allow zero balance transfers on claims"
  1. Click Save.
