Installation Error 2318 / Error 1603

When downloading or installing an updated version of the Kareo Desktop Application (PM), customers on Windows 8, 8.1, and 10 with McAfee Anti-Virus enabled may receive the following errors:

  • Error 2318 File does not exist
  • Error 1603 Fatal error during Installation

Follow the below steps to clear the errors:

  1. Restart the computer.
    • If restarting does not resolve the issue, proceed to step 2.

  1. Run the Windows chkdsk utility.
    Note: Review Microsoft's documentation for more technical information about chkdsk.
    1. Press the Windows logo key + X on the keyboard. The Quick Access menu opens.
    2. Select Command Prompt (Admin). The Administrator: Command Prompt window opens.
      • If the User Account Control pop-up window opens, click Yes to allow the Windows program to make changes. The Administrator: Command Prompt window opens.
    3. Type "chkdsk /f" and press Enter on the keyboard.
    4. Type "Y" and press Enter on the keyboard.
    5. Restart the computer.
      • If restarting does not resolve the issue, proceed to step 3.

  1. Uninstall Kareo then reinstall Kareo.
