Error 2318 File does not exist / Error 1603 Fatal error during installation

When prompted to download or install an updated version of the desktop application, some customers on Windows 8, 8.1, and 10 with McAfee Anti-Virus enabled are receiving the following errors:

  • Error 2318 File does not exist
  • Error 1603 Fatal error during Installation

There are three possible resolutions to clear the errors:

  1. Restart your computer.
    1. If restarting does not resolve the issue, go to step 2.

  1. Run the Windows Chkdsk Utility.
    1. Press Windows+X on your keyboard. The Quick Access Menu opens.
    2. Click Command Prompt (Admin). The Administrator: Command Prompt window opens.
    3. Type "chkdsk /f" and press Enter on your keyboard.
    4. Type "Y" and press Enter on your keyboard.
    5. Restart your computer.
      1. If restarting does not resolve the issue, go to step 3.

  1. Uninstall Kareo, then reinstall Kareo.
